چکیده
Biopsy spec imens were obta ined dur ing endodontic surgical p rocedures pe r fo rmed on 35 patients. Histopathologic a n d histobacter iologic studies of the spec imens showed that there w a s no correlation be t ween the p resence of var ious inf lammatory cells a n d the clinical s igns a n d symptoms of the patients. Epithelium w a s found in 21 spec imens , but only nine lesions were d i agnosed as cysts. Although bac te r i a were found in five specimens , in only one c a s e were the bac te r i a located in the disirlteqratinq tissue of the root cana l a n d per iap ica l tissue.

Extraradicular infection as the cause of persistent symptoms: a case series.
INTRODUCTION This article describes 3 cases that presented persistent symptoms after appropriate endodontic treatment. Histopathologic and histobacteriologic investigation were conducted for determination of the cause. METHODS Three cases are reported that presented with persistent symptoms after endodontic retreatment (cases 1 and 2) or treatment (case 3). Periapical surgery was indicated an...
متن کاملAnatomic and microbiologic challenges to achieving success with endodontic treatment: a case report.
This article describes a case of persistent apical periodontitis that required several nonsurgical and surgical approaches for resolution. A 28-year-old woman presented with a large symptomatic apical periodontitis lesion associated with the maxillary left lateral incisor that persisted in spite of previous nonsurgical and surgical endodontic treatment. Root canal retreatment was accomplished, ...
متن کاملSurgical endodontic retreatment.
In teeth with periapical lesions and defective root canal seals non-surgical retreatment is usually preferred. Sometimes, however, such treatment may not be feasible and periapical surgery must be performed. The present study investigated a technique of retrograde root canal treatment as an alternative to the more conventional types of surgical procedure. The material consisted of 35 teeth whos...
متن کاملIncidence of periradicular pathoses in endodontic treatment failures.
Biopsy reports from 150 periradicular tissue specimens obtained from teeth refractory to nonsurgical endodontic therapy were reviewed. The specimens were submitted by postdoctoral dental students in the Department of Endodontics, and the biopsy reports were prepared by oral pathologists at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The study found that 59.3% of the periradicu...
متن کاملA Case Report of Periapical Actinomycosis of Maxilla
Actinomycosis is a chronic and less common infectious process that established by Actinomyces israilii. Involvement of faciocervical region is more common than thorasic and visceral types and typically involves the angle of mandible and with less occurrence rate the upper jaw may also be involved. Periapical lesions of maxilla that involved in this process by Actinomyces israilii are rare and c...
